of the Earth has been campaigning for clean energy solutions and
against uranium mining and nuclear power for 35 years. Thank you for
your support and solidarity along the way.
The
defeat of the Coalition government at the November 2007 election was a
significant step forward for everyone committed to a nuclear-free
future. However:
* The Labor Party dropped its policy of opposition to new uranium mines in 2007 and applications for several new mines have already been submitted to state and federal governments.
* The Labor government is stalling on its promises to support renewable energy development and is enthusiastic about 'clean coal', the great oxymoron!
* Resources Minister Martin Ferguson is hell-bent on imposing an unwanted and unnecessary waste dump in the Northern Territory.
With Dr Jim Green employed as our national nuclear campaigner, and a network of anti-nuclear campaign groups around the country, FoE is playing a central role in these battles. This year is pivotal in the campaign to resist expansion of uranium mining in Australia and the establishment of a nuclear waste dump in Northern Territory.
