Nuclear Fighting Fund

by CamWalker last modified 2008-03-19 21:52

The election of the ALP does not mean we can all retire (yet!) While there are some great outcomes with regards to domestic nuclear reactors and the waste dump planned for the NT, on uranium mining and export, there is very little difference between Labor and the Coalition.

Both support an unlimited number of mines. Both support uranium sales to nuclear weapons states, states blocking progress on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, states with a history of covert weapons research, etc. We will have to fight proposed new mines and plans to expand the three existing mines (Ranger, Roxby, Beverley). We need to do our best to hold the Queensland and WA governments to their policy of opposing uranium mining. We need to hold Labor to its promise to improve nuclear safeguards.

At this point we do not have funding for our anti nuclear campaigns for 2008 and desperately need your help. If you can support us in any way, we will be able to keep going and meet the challenges that face the nuclear free movement.

While the political landscape has changed with the results of the federal election, many of the struggles remain.
