The Safe Food Foundation is a Melbourne based not-for-profit campaign and advocacy organisation with a broad remit and a proactive, solution oriented approach to food quality and safety. The Safe Food Foundation’s mission is to make the World’s food supply clean, safe, nutritious, full of taste and produced in a way that enhances our environment, as well as our social and economic systems. We work to highlight issues around Genetically Modified (GM) foods, chemicals, nanotechnology, irradiation, corporate control, monoculture, fair trade and food sovereignty.

Friends of the Earth today released a new report The Dose Makes the Poison? which highlights the Australian fruit and vegetables most at risk to pesticide residues and names the pesticides most commonly detected in Australian foods.
According to the research, the most risky foods are: Apples, Wheat, Strawberries, Pears, Grapes, Nectarines, Peaches and Bread. The most risky imported food over the past two years was Chinese peanut butter.

The Pantry at the South Melbourne Commons is a food & grocery cooperative that provides you with a sustainable alternative to supermarket shopping. The Pantry supplies affordable fresh fruit, vegetables, groceries, cleaning products and nearly everything you need for you home to complete your weekly grocery shop.
The Pantry opened in December 2011, and is open over the summer period.
