The recent release of the Stern review has caused many who were previously unconvinced of the need to reduce greenhouse emissions that urgent action is needed now. However, a new publication from Friends of the Earth, ‘Climate Justice: A fair share of the Atmosphere’ emphasises that our reasons for addressing climate change must be humanitarian as well as economic.
Avoiding catastrophe: Recent science and new data on global warming
New report on emissions scenarios to avoid catastrophic climate change. The global mean temperature rise has been 0.8℃ since the late 1880s, but due to "thermal imbalance" there is a latent temperature rise still to come of about 0.6℃, which will result in a rise of 1.4℃ for the present level of atmospheric greenhouse gases.
Carbon Neutral Across Greenland
Roger Chao, Rob Rigato, and Linda Beilharz will be crossing Greenland unsupported from sea to sea, each hauling 100kg sleds some 550km. They will begin the initial climb from sea level up to around 2700m and then back down, facing winds of up to 200km/ph and temperatures down to -30c.

Why it’s better to donate to the Friends of the Earth Climate Justice Campaign! 'Carbon offset’ schemes have a number of problems, and aren't a solution for preventing runaway climate change. If you absolutely must fly to see a loved one or to attend a work conference, donate a meaningful amount to the Friends of the Earth Climate Justice Campaign rather than a trivial amount trying to offset your carbon.

The Friends of the Earth climate and coal campaign works to bring about necessary changes in lifestyle, society, industry and policy to halt dangerous climate change. Our focus is on achieving deep cuts to our greenhouse gas pollution emissions, and a moratorium on all new coal fired power stations (including the proposed HRL coal power station in Victoria) with a just transition to renewable energy solutions.
