Kim Nguyen is riding from Brisbane to Copenhagen over a period of almost 18 months. He intends to arrive in time for the UN negotiations on climate change. Along the way will collect signatures calling for comprehensive, fair, and immediate action on climate change. FoEA is proud to be involved in this project.

In August 2008, with the support of a team of friends, sponsors and supporters from around Australia, Kim Nguyen set off on a bike ride from Brisbane to Copenhagen.

Kim aims to arrive in Copenhagen in time for the next major international climate change meeting in December 2009. Along his journey Kim will collect signatures urging comprehensive, fair, and immediate action on climate change and video pleas for assistance to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the people of Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Europe and from places in between. Kim will present these signatures and videos to the delegates at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

Updates will be posted here as they arrive, or check Kim's website (see below).

The journey

Departing on 10 August 2008 from Brisbane, Australia Kim will then make his way along the following path:

  • Cairns, then across to Darwin.
  • From Darwin the ride will change mode of transport briefly, getting a boat or plane to Dili, East Timor, then resume riding to Indonesia, and riding and taking ferries through the Indonesian Islands to Java, then Sumatra, and finally to Malaysia.
  • Then overland through Malaysia, Thailand and into Myanmar.
  • Then into the Indian subcontinent, from east to west, through Bangladesh, India and into Pakistan.
  • The ride will head north west to the border of Iran. Passing through Iran will take the ride into Turkey and Eastern Europe.
  • Once in Europe the ride will journey northwards through Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and into the Czech Republic.
  • From there it is a home straight through Germany and into Denmark by December 2009.

Kim hopes to ride an average of 70 kilometres a day for five days, then take a coupe of days off to rest, work on the documentary, promote the project, and record video petitions.

We will be making contact with environmental and community development projects all along the route so that Kim can record what they are doing, interview them about the climate related issues they face and  enlist their participation in the project.
