The debate is over
It's not too late to stop runaway climate
change
We cannot pretend that there is still real debate about climate change. There's not. The connection between climate change and human activity is as undisputed as that between smoking and lung cancer.
Here is what some notable people and institutions have to say about climate change:
"There is now strong evidence that significant global warming is occurring ... It is likely that most of the warming in recent decades can be attributed to human activities". U.S. National Academy of Sciences and 10 other leading world bodies in a consensus view. See http://nationalacademies.org/onpi/06072005.pdf
"Recent coverage has questioned the influence of humans on the climate. While the arguments used might have been regarded as genuine areas of sceptical enquiry 20 years ago, further observed warming and advances in climate science render these out of touch." British Government. See www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pressoffice/myths/index.html
"Far from being some future fear, global warming is happening now, and scientists have evidence that humans are to blame. For decades, cars and factories have spewed billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and these gases caused temperatures to rise between 0.6°C and 0.9°C ... over the past century. The rate of warming in the last 50 years was double the rate observed over the last 100 years. Temperatures are certain to go up further." NASA, see www.earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Library/GlobalWarmingUpdate/
"We are Earth scientists. We are not part of a vast conspiracy to perpetrate a hoax, nor are we crowd-following herd animals. We are concerned about the world we are leaving to our children ... As scientists we have a duty to speak out when our findings strongly suggest that a dangerous and harmful development is underway — just like someone who sees smoke billowing out of a house has a duty to call the fire brigade."
