What can you do?
You can take action to protect forest, animals and uphold the rights of indigenous communities. Sign our petition, write some letters and learn more about the issues.
When the solutions to problems involve changing international policy, regulatory agencies and the behavior of corporations in far away countries, we can often feel powerless, but there are things you can do to make a difference. The fact that pressure from people like you have made some of the United Kingdoms largest supermarket chains announce a policy to ban unsustainable palm oil from products on their shelves proves that you can make a difference.
The following are the top three things you can do to take action on this issue:
- Properly labelled in ingredients lists.
- Ensure that palm oil imported into Australia has come from sustainable sources where no deforestation has occurred to grow the crop.
- Stop the clearing of primary forest in Indonesia for the purpose of oil palm production.
2. Use our letter writing kit to send letters to supermarkets food manufacturers and cosmetics companies using palm oil to request that they either find an alternative oil to use in their products or ensure their palm oil has come from independently certified sustainable sources.
3. Download and read the Palm Oil Action Group brochure to become more informed on the issue and pin up a copy at your workplace.
You’ll find more ways to help by visiting the POAG website.
*Note: In the interests of the thousands of people who depend on palm oil for their livelihoods, we are not calling for a ban on palm oil or a boycott of products that use palm oil.
