Please join PedBikeTrans, Bicycle Queensland, GWhiz, FoodConnect and Qld College of Art for International PARK(ing) Day.
It
should be a hoot - we're taking over parking spaces and turning them
into fun spaces for people. The event, including a PBT "ideas market",
will take place on Little Stanley Street, South Bank (near Tribune
Street) on Friday 19th September from 7am - 2pm. People are welcome to
drop in anytime and enjoy breakfast, lunch, fruit, coffee or just a
chat.
PARK(ing) Day will be a practical demonstration of just
how quickly we can transform parking spaces into lively and exciting
spaces for people. Enjoy some new grassy parks, free valet bicycle
parking from Bicycle Queensland, pay-as-you-drive community car share
by GWhiz and 'fresh from the farm' local and organic fruit and
vegetables from FoodConnect. Other parking spaces along Little Stanley
Str eet will be turned into exciting design studios by Queensland
College of Arts students, featuring "Sustainable futures in design".
PedBikeTrans
(The Pedestrian and Bicycle Institute of Australia) will use the former
car parks to showcase their ideas to transform Brisbane's transport
system and public spaces. The ideas were generated at their very
successful 2020 Ideas Summit in April. Now PedBikeTrans invite people,
young and old, to give their own ideas on how to rapidly transform
Brisbane into a world class city.
International PARK(ing) Day
events are being held in over 50 cities worldwide, and aim to challenge
people to rethink the way streets are used, reinforce the need for
urban public spaces and create diverse conversations about how we make
vibrant and sustainable cities. Other Brisbane parks will be created in
West End, Fortitude Valley, Paddington, Woolloongabba and St Lucia.
Please help us to make this event a success.
Distribute
this message to your networks, and perhaps even arrenge to meet some
friends at one of the cafes along Little Stanley Street for breakfast,
lunch or coffee during the day. We'll be just outside the "Satay Hut"
which opens for lunch, but there's cafes like The Garage, and T-Licious
quite close by.
