MINING & WATER IN SA
Cultural, scientific and environmental perspectives

World Water Day Public Meeting
Monday March 23, 6.30pm to 8pm
Coglin St Community Centre, 23 Coglin Street, Adelaide.

South Australia has been riding the boom in commodities markets, but how do present profits erode our natural capital? Now, as mining profits wither in the global financial crisis, what is the true cost of the mining industry? This forum will take up these themes with an emphasis on the impacts of uranium mining on SA's water resources. Speakers will share their insights from cultural, scientific, environmental and social justice perspectives, while looking towards solutions for the future.

Speakers include:

Jillian Marsh, Adnyamathanha woman and winner of the 2008 Nuclear Free Futures Award

Peter Watts, Arabunna custodian

Dr Gavin Mudd, Hydrogeologist and Engineering lecturer, Monash University

Peter Burdon, Masters candidate in Law, Adelaide University; Friends of the Earth Adelaide campaigner

David Noonan, Australian Conservation Foundation campaigner

And a statement by Mrs Eileen Wingfield, Kokatha elder and long term conservation campaigner

This World Water Day public forum will also launch a call for the Rann Government to initiate a Public Inquiry into the
depletion and pollution of SA’s precious and dwindling water resources by uranium mining companies. Copies of this
statement and further information will be available on the night.

Organised by the Australian Nuclear Free Alliance and Friends of the Earth.
