Friends of the Earth Melbourne is seeking a part time outreach and
events co-ordinator.
The position is days2 days a week, initially for five months (August –
December 2008).
This position would collaborate with the FoEM office collective to
coordinate a range of planned events and help build our ability capacity
to engage in strategic fund raising opportunities.
About Friends of the Earth
Friends of the Earth Melbourne (FoE M) Inc. is a community based
activist organisation located in Collingwood. It has been active on
environmental and social justice campaigns for more than 35 years. It is
a non-hierarchical, collective – based organisation which operates on
the understanding that environmental issues need to be addressed in
their full human rights and political context.
Position Purpose
The purpose of this role is:
- in conjunction with the campaigns co-ordinator and FoEM climate
justice group, co-ordinate the 2008 'solutions to climate change'
community festival (planned for spring 2008)
- to organise the Winter Series Program – a series of 5 speaking events
across inner Melbourne, developed in collaboration with FoE collectives
and supported by the City of Yarra community grants program. Each event
will be themed, with one event incorporated an international video
conference.
- Events should incorporate fund-raising opportunities as appropriate,
- to increase the FoE M profile, and hence future campaigning and
fund-raising ability.
Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the outreach and events coordinator would be, as
part of the office collective, to work to achieve the following:
1. Confirm dates and organise venue, and other requirements of the
Climate Festival and the Winter series;
2. In consultation with the campaigns co-ordinator, create a work plan
outlining the steps proposed to deliver the two key events, including
proposed speakers, venues and potential fund-raising options for
incorporation
3. Send invitations to speakers and potential audiences, and process and
coordinate bookings & rsvp’s.
4. Coordinate and distribute promotional materials such as posters for
events through engagement with local networks and businesses and to
participants.
5. Maintain database of participant details.
6. Assist with the coordination of volunteers for these events.
7. Undertake administrative tasks relating to the events and to support
the office collective, as required;
Wages and conditions
The fund outreach and events coordinator would work as part of the FoE
Melbourne office collective. The other current members of the collective
are the campaigns coordinator, finance manager and membership
development officer. This collective will be an integral partner and
source of support for the work undertaken.
The outreach and events coordinator would also need to develop working
relationships with the nuclear and climate justice fund raiser at FoEM.
The position is paid at the standard FoE daily rate and accrues all
benefits on a pro rata basis.
It would be reviewed at the end of the six months, with a view to making
it a permanent position at 2 days/ week.
