The Victorian Government is to be congratulated on a new exciting, constructive initiative at the Yenbena Centre in Barmah Township.

“Cultural Heritage Training at Yenbena is spot-on for Barmah and for Yorta Yorta – this is supporting Indigenous self-determination where it matters,” said Jonathan La Nauze, Friends of the Earth spokesperson.

The Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation are visionary and motivated, and the building of the Yenbena Training Centre was one of countless examples of their initiative yielding extraordinary results.

Now it is good to see the potential of the centre being maximised.

“Congratulations to Ministers Jennings and Thwaites, and especially to Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation – examples of this cooperation are inspiring to all.

“Social and ecological sustainability of the Barmah area are closely linked to the position occupied in the community, by the Indigenous Traditional Owners. Respect for their rights, their culture and their abilities will be fostered by successful initiatives such as Yenbena.

“We urge the Ministers to find ongoing funding for a variety of training programs at Yenbena,” said Jonathan La Nauze, Friends of the Earth spokesperson.
