In August 2010, the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance produced a letter supporting the participation of the social enterprise and small food business sector, as well as the community food sector, in the development of a national policy on food.
Feast of Film, film festival in Adelaide
Friends of the Earth's Feast of Film, a film festival about good food and farming, is back for 2010! Over six weeks, the Feast of Film will offer fortnightly screenings (on July 31, August 14 and 28) of some of the best international films about good food, agriculture and community, including the very special August 28 world premiere of `An Urban Orchard', a celebration of food gardening and sharing on the Adelaide Plains.
Public forum: 500 million farmers can’t be wrong!
In June 2010, a delegation from the international farmers’ organisation La Via Campesina will be making an historic first visit to Australia. La Via Campesina is considered to be the largest civil society (non-government, non-corporate) organisation in the world, representing the interests of some 500 million farming families. This forum will be held in Adelaide on June 25.
Vision for the future of food in SA released
In February 2010, over 700 farmers, academics, government, health and community workers, environmentalists, permaculturalists, small growers, gardeners, students, educators and other community members gathered at the University of South Australia, Adelaide, for From Plains to Plate: the Future of Food in South Australia. The declaration from this convergence has just been released.

New Eco Market to Challenge Supermarket Duopoly
Recently over 70 people crowded into the Friends of the Earth (FoE) bookshop to learn more about the innovative Eco Market project that promises to create a truly sustainable alternative to shopping at the supermarket.

Friends of the Earth Australia is currently developing a campaign aimed at delivering a major change in the way food and groceries in Australia are sold. The campaign will include the development of a shopping guide to help people make informed and ethical choices and in late summer 2009, FoE will pilot our first ‘sustainable supermarket’ - a weekend Eco-Market that will provide at least 70% of the goods you can find in a traditional supermarket.

NEW REPORT: GM CROPS INCREASE PESTICIDE USE
A new report released on February 13th shows that planting genetically modified (GM) crops is causing an increased use of harmful pesticides in major biotech crop producing countries. It also shows that in 2007 GM crops still failed to tackle hunger and poverty in developing countries.
