Activities and Projects
Up one levelLiving Sustainably in a Globalised World
'Living Sustainably by the Yarra in a Globalised World' is a Melbourne based project which aims to connect the concern our local community has for the environment with the impacts our actions have on the world beyond our borders. The project will highlight key areas that our local actions impact on the environment globally and locally. Topics covered will include climate change; consumption of forest products such as paper, furniture, and fire-wood; and a look at the so called wonder crop palm oil and it's likely impact on deforestation, climate change and orang-utans. Friends of the Earth Melbourne gratefully acknowledges the support of the City of Yarra for this project.
FoE International Trade, Environment and Sustainability Program
Friends of the Earth Australia works closely with the Friends of the Earth International Trade, Environment and Sustainability program. Friends of the Earth Australia is currently involved in researching the linkages between global trade, liberalisation and climate change; and the impacts of global trade, liberalisation on forests and the people who depend upon them for their livelihoods.
Strong Communities, Sane World: challenging the G20's neoliberal agenda
This issue of Friends of the Earth Australia's national magazine Chain Reaction focussed on the Group of Twenty countries (G20) Melbourne meeting that was held in November 2006. The issue highlights the social and environmental implications of neoliberal economic policies and looks to an alternative social and economic agenda.
Regaining Control of the Commons: WSF 2007
At the 2007 World Social Forum Friends of the Earth International co-hosted "Reclaim the Commons" an event which brought together people from across the globe to discuss strategies to ensure local peoples are able to live sustainably from their natural resources. Event participants included indigenous people's representatives, farmers, fisherfolks, oil activists and environmentalists. The testimonies of the participants have been uploaded here.
