FoE launches the RET Road Trip

Today, FoE's Yes 2 Renewables campaign will launch its fact-finding RET Review Road Trip at the Hepburn Wind farm—the birthplace of community energy in Australia.

The visit to the Hepburn Wind farm is the first stop of an 11-week road trip to get a real understanding of the impact the Renewable Energy Target has on Victorian communities.

We’re visiting places that have benefitted from renewable energy projects or experienced the impacts of fossil fuel pollution.

The Abbott government initiated a review of the Renewable Energy Target—Australia’s flagship renewable energy policy. It has appointed former Reserve Bank richard_e_warburtonboard member and Caltex chairman, Dick Warburton (AO LVO), to chair the review.

We’ve invited Mr Warburton to join us on our 11-stop fact-finding mission so he can make an informed decision about the Renewable Energy Target.

Dick Warburton has not responded to our invite, yet we remain hopeful he’ll join us at scheduled events over the next few months. After all, strong community engagement is essential to making a decision about a policy as important at the RET.

Where next for our road trip?… Morwell, in the heart of Victoria’s coal and energy producing Latrobe Valley.
