One fossil fuel loophole closed, $10 billion worth to go

The Government has closed one loophole, but missed the opportunity to remove $10 billion of fossil fuel subsidies from the Federal Budget and limit further climate change, according to ‘Paid to Pollute’, the alliance of environment and community organisations.

Everest 'Climbing for Climate Justice' Expedition Aims to Break World Records

A Nepalese expedition 'Climbing for Climate Justice' led by four-time world record climber Pemba Dorje Sherpa will ascend Mount Everest (Nepal) from May 10, 2013.
Expedition members [1] plan to reach the world's highest mountain peak (8,848 m) on May 26 in an attempt to establish several world records.

The expedition aims to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and the need for climate justice.

Daring Banner Drop Highlights Napthine's Backward Stance on Climate Change, Energy

The big banks are funding a huge problem

This morning, FoE affiliate Market Forces and Australia have released the report Financing Reef Destruction: how banks are using our money to destroy a natural icon.

The report identifies the banks that are doing the most to fund dirty coal and gas projects inside the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

The PM’s cabinet reshuffle is a missed opportunity when it comes to Australia’s climate and energy politics.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced Gary Gray as Australia’s new Minister for Resources and Energy, who will oversee the conflicting portfolios of energy and resources under one roof.

Today, Lock the Gate Alliance have launched our Call to Country. It's a call from the heart of this country, and the people who love it, to demand real action to restrict inappropriate coal and gas mining. Our new mapping shows that 437 million hectares of our land is covered by coal and gas licences or applications. That's more than half of Australia and an area 18 times the size of Great Britain.
