Friends of the Earth Australia has welcomed a decision yesterday to compensate Mr Eric Donaldson for pollution of groundwater used on his property, near the Army Aviation Centre at Oakey in Southern Queensland.

Several Freedom of Information requests over the past couple of months have confirmed that low level pesticide contamination of Victorian water supplies is commonplace.

Platypus_Pesticide_ANZECC_Regulation.jpgIn September 2016 Friends of the Earth produced the report:  Pesticides in Australian Waterways Overview. The results were shocking with 89% of the almost 200 pesticides detected having no ecological guidelines under the current system.

Many of the unregulated pesticides detected are known to be harmful to animals like the iconic platypus, affect their food supply and cause havoc and destruction for fragile ecosystems in Australian waterways.


Study confirms widespread pesticide pollution of Australian waterways

Pesticide Report AustraliaEnvironmental organisation Friends of the Earth (FoE) today called on increased restrictions and bans on pesticides which continue to pollute Australian waterways. FoE also called for significant increases in the number of pesticide guideline levels published in ecological and drinking water guidelines in Australia.

These calls are based on a review of data revealing widespread pesticide pollution across Australia.


Tasmanians exposed to high levels of toxins in drinking water

Approximately 3,000 Tasmanians were exposed to high levels of toxins in drinking water on a regular basis during 2013-14.

Environmental organisation Friends of the Earth Australia (FoE), today released a report assessing information from TasWater on non-Microbiological detections of pollutants in Tasmanian drinking water between July 2013 and June 2014. The information was supplied to FoE via Right to Information (RTI) legislation. Approximately 3,000 Tasmanians were exposed to high levels of toxins in drinking water on a regular basis during 2013-14, with perhaps as many as 20,000 people exposed to high levels at some time during 2013-14.
