Invasion Day Events 2025

January 26th, the day we recognise as Invasion Day, also known as Survival day, is this Weekend. This is a day of mourning for First Nations peoples.

First Nations peoples have been on the frontlines of resistance against colonisation since 1788, when the British Military declared their invasive rule, under the false idea of 'terra nullius'.

At Friends of the Earth, we acknowledge that the sovereignty over so-called Australia has never been ceded by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This always was, always will be, Aboriginal land. We work, and fight for environmental justice on stolen land. We acknowledge that all forms of justice are interconnected and that we cannot have climate justice without First Nations justice.

We recognise that all forms of colonialism and oppression are connected. We stand in solidarity for First Nations peoples of so-called “Australia”, as well as Palestine, and all oppressed Indigenous peoples around the globe.

Donate to The Dhadjowa Foundation

"The Dhadjowa Foundation is a national grassroots organisation that's been established to provide strategic, coordinated and culturally appropriate support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families whose loved ones have died in custody. They are a not-for-profit organisation that's independent from all government funding and rely solely on donations, fundraising and philanthropy.

The Dhadjowa Foundation delivers grassroots support for families through three key activities, Peer Support; Financial assistance and Campaign capacity building. All of which will be family-led and founded in self-determination." - Dhadjowa Website.

Friends of the Earth urges anyone who has the financial capacity to support the Dhadjowa foundation with a one off or ongoing donation.

Return Lee Point to the Larrakia People

The following words & images are by @Laniyuk for a recent action that Friends of the Earth supported:

In the lead up to January 26th our allies in Naarm/Melbourne gathered outside of defence housing australia to protest its planned destruction of sacred Larrakia land. We gathered to sing, chant and speak to surrounding business’ and people walking by about the impact destroying Lee Point would have on Larrakia culture and the ecosystem across Darwin.

This action was a long way away from Lee Point and yet there were many people who have lived or currently live in Darwin who spoke about how beautiful Larrakia Country is and how much Larrakia Country has held and healed them. There were also people who have never been to Darwin but believe deeply in the importance of returning Aboriginal land and righting the wrong and harm of ongoing colonisation.

There are so many ways to be involved in helping us return Lee Point to Larrakia people and everyone has skills that contribute to a collective strength! If you’d like to find out more about ways to be involved (no matter where you are) you can head to returnleepoint.com where you can find information, join our mailing list, buy a tshirt from our fundraiser and volunteer your skills and time.
