January 26th, the day we recognise as Invasion Day, also known as Survival day, is next week. This is a day of mourning for First Nations people.
First Nations people have been on the frontlines of resistance against colonisation since 1788, when the British Military declared their invasive rule, under the false idea of 'terra nullius'.
At Friends of the Earth, we acknowledge that the sovereignty over so-called Australia has never been ceded by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This always was, always will be, Aboriginal land. We work, and fight for environmental justice on stolen land. We acknowledge that all forms of justice are interconnected and that we cannot have climate justice without First Nations justice.
We recognise that all forms of colonialism and oppression are connected. We stand in solidarity for Palestine, First Nations peoples of so-called "Australia", and all oppressed Indigenous peoples.
Invasion Day rallies across the continent -
Below are some rallies and events across the continent where First Nations people and allies are invited to participate in an act of resistance against continuing systemic racism, deaths in custody and the colonial project.
Recognising that we are still in a pandemic, please be covid safe when attending any events. We must hold solidarity and health care safety for each other!
We will continue to update this page as protests and events are released
