Welcome to the GMFAA November newsletter!
GM-Free Australia Alliance advocates for food and farming free from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). We hope this finds you doing well. Welcome you to our HUGE November 2024 newsletter! Firstly thank you for your interest in keeping what you put into your body clean of GMOs. This month's newsletter is SUPER IMPORTANT as we explain the proposed Amendments to the Gene Technology Act 2000 which appears to want to deregulate GMOs further. This is done through the Office of Gene Technology Regulator who decides what GMOs go into our food and in fact, also our medicines and environment. Plus the GOVERNMENT'S HARD PUSH FOR CENSORSHIP means the latest research and information around GMOs will be more difficult to get to you without censoring ourselves. Yes indeed, that will be the case. Your assistance to help us stay strong and fight for the freedom to bring you the most up to date information on GMs, is more paramount than ever! Especially with the MAD Bill looming at the pointy end of this year and vying for final approval in the SENATE last sitting week for the year and changing our freedom of speech forever. More on this in below. Your support ensures that our organisation which is standing between you and the future of clean, green and Genetically Modified Free food, for our food system, for you, for our families and our future generations remains strong. Please do consider giving to the Alliance to keep us going on our mission. Even a $10.00 (minimum) Donation helps us to continue to educate and advocate for a GM Free future in Australia. THANK YOU to those who have donated to us so far this year. We really appreciate your commitment to help us, to help you and yours We're still not there to keep the doors open and any further support to wrap up the year would be certainly keep GMFree Australia Alliance going into 2025 in a much strongly position than we currently find ourselves. Small changes to Gene Technology Bill spells drastic changes to our EnvironmentRecently proposed amendments to Australia's Gene Technology Act 2000 are designed to modernise its regulatory framework, making it more adaptable to advances in genetic technology, here starts the biggest concern to us as humans, and of course, concerns to our environment. The main changes include a "risk-tiering" approach, which categorises GMOs based on their risk level to streamline approvals for lower-risk technologies while maintaining rigorous assessment for higher-risk modifications. This update is expected to reduce regulatory duplication and align closely with other regulatory schemes, covering areas like health, agriculture, and environmental safety which we believe does not satisfy strong best practices standards. The Australian Misinformation and Disinformation Bill (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation Bill 2024) has potential implications for not-for-profit organisations, especially those focused on sensitive topics like environmental issues and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The Bill has just been passed through the House of Reps, however, IT CAN STILL BE STOPPED IN THE SENATE. So we still have a chance to stop us moving into Orwellian madness. To understand the true extent of how this will affect you, your family and all organisations whom are not government nor large corporations. Read the Serious Concerns around the MAD Bill here We will be sending out a list of CROSSBENCH SENATORS who you can ring and write to, asking them to STOP THE MADNESS OF THIS MAD BILL and not pass it through the Senate. The Australian Human Rights Commission is also not impressed with this new Bill. You can read the Aust. Human Rights Commission Statement here Our Product of the MonthWe ALL love ACAI right!
