2016 - a big year for nuclear issues in South Australia

The Nuclear Royal Commission continues its investigations and will hand down the final report in May. The Commission is looking into the risks and opportunities of furthering a nuclear industry here in SA including increased uranium mining, uranium enrichment, nuclear power and dumping international nuclear waste. Three sites in South Australia, two at Kimba and one in the Flinders Rangers have been shortlisted to become a national nuclear waste dump. South Australians have a long history of opposing waste dumps and have state legislation opposing it. We are working hard to have a voice in the debate and represent many South Australians who don't want us to go down the radioactive path.

Tasmanians exposed to high levels of toxins in drinking water

                   Approximately 3,000 Tasmanians were exposed to high levels of toxins in drinking water on a regular basis during 2013-14. Environmental organisation Friends of the Earth Australia (FoE), today released a report assessing information from TasWater on non-Microbiological detections of pollutants in Tasmanian drinking water between July 2013 and June 2014. The information was supplied to FoE via Right to Information (RTI) legislation. Approximately 3,000 Tasmanians were exposed to high levels of toxins in drinking water on a regular basis during 2013-14, with perhaps as many as 20,000 people exposed to high levels at some time during 2013-14.
